Zhu2 Gan1 (竹竿)= bamboo pole
Shan1 Zhu2 (山竹)= mangosteen

Me: This year you never get that liu3 thingy ar?
Mum: What liu3 thingy?
Me: Err, chui2 liu3.
Mum: Chui2 liu3?!
Kou: It's ying2 liu3 lah! What chui2 liu3?!

Chui2 Liu3 (垂柳)= Weeping Willow
Ying2 Liu3= Pussy Willow

Me: 你不会车晕 meh?
Mum: 车晕?
Me: Yeah.
Mum: You mean 晕车?

车晕= car is giddy (literally)
晕车= car-sickness
